Agrohadham

अग्रोहाधाम

The global spiritual headquarters of the Aggarwal community — the temple complex built at Agroha (Hisar district, Haryana) where Maharaja Agrasen's ancient kingdom once stood. Home to Maa Adya Mahalakshmi, the universal Kuldevi of all eighteen gotras.

A panoramic dusk view of the ancient Hindu kingdom of Agroha at the height of its prosperity, with multiple Nagara-style shikhara temple towers, a central sacred bathing tank, sandstone marketplaces, and citizens in classical Indian attire under a saffron evening sky.

Agroha · अग्रोहा

Where Maharaja Agrasen founded his kingdom — and where the community returns to honour him today.

Founding · स्थापना

A pilgrimage built by the community, for the community

The decision to build a central pilgrimage site for the global Aggarwal community was made in 1976 by the All India Aggarwal Representatives. The Agroha Vikas Trust was formed shortly after by three community leaders — Shri Krishna Modi, Rameshwar Das Gupta, and Sri Ram Kansal — to oversee the construction and ongoing care of the complex.

Construction took eight years. The three original shrines were consecrated together in 1984, drawing community members from across India and the diaspora to a single spiritual centre on the soil where Maharaja Agrasen's ancient kingdom once stood.

The Three Shrines · त्रिमूर्ति मंदिर

Consecrated 1984

Three deities, three directions — at the heart of the original Agrohadham.

Centre

Maa Adya Mahalakshmi

माँ आद्य महालक्ष्मी

The universal Kuldevi of all eighteen Aggarwal gotras

The primordial form of Mahalakshmi who blessed Maharaja Agrasen to walk the Vaishya path. Her shrine sits at the centre of the complex, held to be the most sacred.

East

Maharaja Agrasen

महाराजा अग्रसेन

The founder-ancestor of every Aggarwal gotra

The legendary king of Agroha, ancestor of all eighteen gotras. The eastern shrine honours his memory and the values of equality, non-violence, and shared prosperity he established.

West

Maa Saraswati

माँ सरस्वती

Goddess of knowledge, learning, and the arts

The western shrine honours Saraswati — invoked at the community's educational and cultural undertakings, and venerated in particular on Vasant Panchami.

The Sacred Tank · शक्ति सरोवर

Shakti Sarovar (1988)

Behind the temple complex sits the Shakti Sarovar — a sacred tank completed in 1988, four years after the shrines themselves. Water from 41 holy rivers of India was ceremonially poured into its waters, allowing pilgrims to access the spiritual merit of the entire subcontinent at a single location.

At its centre stands a Samudra Manthan sculpture — depicting the cosmic churning of the ocean of milk, the act through which Devi Lakshmi herself emerged. A natural symbolic anchor for the Aggarwal community's spiritual centre.

The new Adya Mahalaxmi temple

आद्य महालक्ष्मी मंदिर

Announced in 2021, the Agroha Vikas Trust is building a major new temple at Agroha dedicated specifically to the primordial form of the goddess — Maa Adya Mahalakshmi. This will be the largest expansion of the community's spiritual centre since the original 1984 consecration.

Budget
₹100 crore
Height
108 feet
Site area
10 acres
Architects
Sompura family — designers of the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi mandir

The new temple is being built on land adjacent to the existing complex. When complete, it will stand among the largest dedicated Mahalakshmi temples in India and the most architecturally significant Aggarwal-community structure ever built — designed by the same Sompura sthapatis (temple architects) whose firm designed the new Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

Heritage Circuit · विरासत परिपथ

Agroha as a national heritage site

In October 2023, the Haryana government announced the development of Agroha as a world heritage destination on the lines of Rakhigarhi, formally signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Archaeological Survey of India.

In March 2024, an IIT Kanpur team conducted a Ground Penetrating Radar survey of the ancient Agroha mound — the first systematic ASI engagement with the site after a 44-year hiatus. The follow-up dig, conducted from 12 March to 31 May 2025 under director K.A. Kabui, uncovered a massive ancient platform and brick wall, deepening understanding of the city's trade networks with Central Asia.

In March 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Agroha to unveil a grand statue of Maharaja Agrasen, marking the national-level recognition of the community's founding figure.

In August 2025, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini directed the newly-formed Hisar-Agroha Metropolitan Development Authority (HAMDA)to prepare a master plan for Agroha as a global heritage city within a 25 km radius — encompassing a tourist welcome centre, site museum, planetarium, knowledge park, and supporting infrastructure.
