Panchang

पंचांग

The five limbs of the Hindu day — tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana — with sunrise, the Hindu month and Rahu kaal, worked out for the city you choose, in India or abroad.

Approximate — confirm with your pandit

अनुमानित — अपने पंडित जी से पुष्टि करें

Worked out on this site from the positions of the Sun and Moon. Timings can differ by a minute or two from printed panchangs, and families and regions follow different rules for when a festival is kept.

How this is worked out

Sun and Moon positions come from the open-source Astronomy Engine (MIT licence), computed in the app — nothing is fetched from another panchang. Nakshatra and yoga use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. Sunrise is when the top edge of the Sun clears the horizon, as printed panchangs give it. Months are named by the sign the Sun is in at the new moon; North Indian families count them purnimanta (each month ends on the full moon), which is the default here.

Checked against published panchangs for Delhi, New York and London to within a couple of minutes. A festival's date also depends on rules (Diwali needs Amavasya in the evening, Raksha Bandhan avoids Bhadra) that families and regions apply differently — so for a puja muhurat, ask your pandit.
